Swimming scholar in good form in Istanbul

Fran Halsall won the silver medal in the 50m freestyle at the World Short-Course Championships in Turkey this week. The Sky Sports scholar had suffered a turbulent year during which she missed out on a medal at the London Olympics. However, the Loughborough swimmer finished her year on a high with an impressive swim in Istanbul. Halsall was in the mix from the beginning of her 50m freestyle race, touching in 23.87 seconds. She told Sky Sports: "After the disappointment of missing out on a medal at London 2012, the World Short-Course Championships in Istanbul was a good opportunity to get back in to international racing and to prove to myself that I'm still one of the fastest girls in the world. "To go there and come back with a silver medal is a step in the right direction for my confidence. I really enjoyed my swimming and can't wait for 2013."
