Phil Dawson's late field goal saw the San Francisco 49ers edge out the NFC West title-chasing Seattle Seahawks 19-17.

Victory for the Seahawks would have seen them claim the division, however San Francisco (9-4) had other ideas on their own pitch.

And Dawson finished off an 11-play, 76-yard drive by landing a 22-yard field goal with 26 seconds remaining to seal victory for the 49ers.

The 38-year-old was on target four times in total during the encounter - with Dawson now landing 20 successive field goals to pass Joe Nedney's 18 consecutive kicks in 2006-07 for a franchise record.

Colin Kaepernick completed 15-of-29 passes for 175 yards and a touchdown, while Frank Gore rushed for 110 yards and Anquan Boldin made 93 yards off six receptions for the 49ers.

Hit back

Dawson had kicked San Francisco into a 6-0 lead in the first quarter, with field goals from 23 and 48 yards.

However Seattle, who had won their previous away games, hit back as Marshawn Lynch ran for an 11-yard score.

A 52-yard field goal from Dawson moved the 49ers back into the lead, only for Russell Wilson to connect with Luke Willson from 39 yards for the Seahawks (11-2).

The 49ers were 16-14 up by half-time after Kaepernick tossed an eight-yard scoring pass to Vernon Davis.

Steven Hauschka looked to have won it for the Seahawks as he landed a 31-yard field goal only for Dawson to have the final say.
