John Fox is 'feeling tremendous' after returning to work as coach of the Denver Broncos less than a month removed from heart surgery.

Fox had an aortic heart valve replaced after being hospitalised early in November when he felt light-headed while playing golf near his home in Charlotte, North Carolina.

In Fox's absence, Jack Del Rio took charge of the Broncos and went 3-1, with two of those victories over the Kansas City Chiefs putting them in pole position for the No 1 play-off seed in the AFC.

The 58-year-old, who was scheduled to have the same surgery after the season, says he now feels the best he has in two decades.

"I'm actually in better shape now than I was a month ago," Fox said. "I feel tremendous, obviously the doctors feel good about me getting back to work.

"I actually would have preferred to have been back sooner, but there was a pretty hard deadline after the surgery of four weeks, and I honoured that.

"I feel as healthy as I've ever felt in the last 20 years. I'm going to be smart. If all of a sudden I can't hold my eyes open, I'm going to go home.

"But, like I said, the last three weeks I've been operating pretty much as I did the first eight weeks of the season. It's not like I'm moving furniture or doing roofs. I mean, I sit somewhere and watch football."

It will be a busy couple of weeks for Fox, with the Broncos facing a two games in four days starting against the Tennesse Titans on Sunday, a game which is followed by a Thursday clash at home to the San Diego Chargers.

Week 14 starts early on Friday morning when the Jacksonville Jaguars host the Houston Texans, and you can see the game live on Sky Sports 1 from 1:00am
