Giovani Bernard opened his NFL account with two touchdowns as the Cincinnati Bengals beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 20-10.

Bernard, a second-round draft pick, rushed over from seven yards in the opening quarter before he linked up with quarterback Andy Dalton for a 27-yard score in the third quarter.

Mike Nugent also added two field goals - from 41 and 25 yards - to complete the first win of the season for the Bengals.

Dalton completed 25-of-45 passes for 280 yards and one touchdown.

"Once I get the ball in my hands it is just a matter of getting across that goal line," Bernard said. "This was a team win. Our defense had an amazing time."

Response

The injury-depleted Steelers endured a difficult day as they slipped to 0-2 for the first time in 11 years

Shaun Suisham's 44-yard field goal and Ben Roethlisberger's one-yard pass to Derek Moye had seen Pittsburgh level at half-time, however they were kept scoreless in the third and fourth quarters.

The Steelers, though, managed just 44 rushing yards - 83 yards less than the Bengals - while Roethlisberger completed 20-of-37 passes for 251 yards, a touchdown and one interception.

"There is a certain amount we need to swallow on this," said Pittsburgh head coach Mike Tomlin. "They were the better team tonight.

"We turned the ball over and didn't have the appropriate response on defense.

"We didn't move the ball well enough in the second half. We have got work to do."
