Blaine Gabbert: Holds off Chad Henne for starting role with Jaguars
Blaine Gabbert has been named starting quarterback for the Jacksonville Jaguars despite breaking his thumb over the weekend.
Gabbert had been competing with Chad Henne for the role and he impressed in his two pre-season outings before being injured in the defeat by the New York Jets on Saturday.
He banged his hand on the helmet of a Jets defender and he was forced to leave the game after going 13-for-16 for 165 yards and a touchdown.
Gabbert will not be risked for the rest of pre-season but the fracture will only sideline him for two weeks and coach Gus Bradley expects him back in training before their week one clash with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Henne completed 12 of his 21 pre-season pass attempts in two games, with no touchdowns and an interception and will assume the back-up role.
The Jaguars are one of four teams involved in this season's NFL International Series - they take on the San Francisco 49ers at Wembley on October 27.
