The Atlanta Falcons have bolstered their defensive options ahead of the 2013/14 season with the addition of free agent Osi Umenyiora on a two-year deal.

The 31-year-old Londoner, who helped the New York Giants to Super Bowl success in Super Bowl XLII and Super Bowl XLVI, has been brought in to help fill the void vacated by John Abraham.

Umenyiora had spent his entire nine-year NFL career with the Giants after being signed in the second round of the 2003 draft.

"Every disappointment is a blessing and it's definitely a blessing for me and I'm thankful to come over here and help this team win."

He was named to the Pro Bowl in 2005 and 2007 and is delighted to have joined the Falcons for the coming season.

Blessing

"To be able to come to a team like this, obviously a great football team (and) a great city, it was just a blessing," he told the club's official website.

"I have a lot less wear and tear on my body over the last two years than I normally would have if I would have been playing all those (extra) downs.

"Every disappointment is a blessing and it's definitely a blessing for me and I'm thankful to come over here and help this team win."
