San Francisco coach Jim Harbaugh has paid tribute to the "focus and unity" in his squad during their preparations for Sunday's Super Bowl showdown against Baltimore.

The 49ers coach held the first of many news conferences less than an hour after touching down in New Orleans, and he insisted they would attempt to treat the build-up as they would for any regular-season game.

San Francisco will be bidding for a record-equalling sixth Super Bowl crown in as many appearances in the season finale, although this is the first time they have reached the showpiece for 18 years.

"Our team has been really focused, focused on winning and the unity of our team," said Harbaugh, whose brother John is the head coach of the Ravens.

"I think it is really genuine and I think it is the best focus on unity and winning that I have ever seen or been a part of.

"We will try to make it like a normal week. We are in the city on Monday like it is the week leading up to a Sunday game, that's our plan.

"Our team enjoys the practice, the meetings and especially the competition. We will be gearing up for the competition of a championship game.

"There is a great 49ers history and we are proud of that. I played against some of those teams that were dominant.

"The organisation has a tremendous history but this is new business and our team is focused on winning a championship."
