Kansas City Chiefs have named former Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid as the successor to Romeo Crennel.

The Chiefs secured the first pick in the NFL draft following a 2-14 season in Missouri, one that resulted in Crennel being shown the door.

However, Kansas City have wasted little time in naming his replacement with Reid, who was fired by the Eagles on Monday after 14 seasons in Philadelphia, landing the job.

The move, which was announced on twitter, came hours after general manager Scott Piloi had left the franchise.

"Andy Reid and (Chiefs CEO) Clark Hunt make it official," the franchise tweeted with a picture of the pair. "Reid becomes the head coach of the Chiefs."

Hunt said in a separate statement earlier on Friday they had "mutually agreed to part ways" with Pioli, though local media reports had earlier suggested that Reid's recruitment would likely result in Pioli's departure.

Reid is the most successful coach in the history of the Eagles, posting a 130-93-1 regular-season record. He made the play-offs nine times, including losing the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXIX.
