Chan Gailey and Ryan Fitzpatrick: End of the road in Buffalo for head coach
Chan Gailey has been axed as head coach of the Buffalo Bills after three losing seasons in the job.
Gailey compiled a 16-32 record in Buffalo and failed to end the longest play-off drought in the NFL, which now stretches to 13 seasons.
The entire coaching team who worked under Gailey have also been relieved of their duties but there is no word yet on the future of general manager Buddy Nix.
"The first thing I want to say is thanks to the Bills organisation, to Buddy and (team owner) Mr. Wilson for the opportunity," Gailey was quoted on the team's official website.
"I understand this is a business. We didn't get the job done. I've been called two other times to turn things around, was able to do it. I wasn't able to get this one done soon enough, and I understand that completely.
"I want to thank the fans. Great Buffalo fans, a great football town. These are loyal, loyal fans and I understand that. I think that the next staff will have a great opportunity for success and to make this another great football franchise."
