Russell Wilson tied Peyton Manning's record of rookie touchdown passes with his 26th of the season helping Seattle to beat St Louis in what proved to be a fruitless pursuit of the NFC West title.

The Seahawks needed Arizona to upset San Francisco to win the division and possibly get a first round bye in the play-offs, but in the end they fell just short and had to settle for the wild card.

San Francisco's tied game won them the West and that difference could be huge given that Seattle will now have to go on the road in the wild card round next week.

For most teams that would be a blow, but Seattle more than most as their 20-13 win over the Rams saw them become the only perfect team at home in the NFL this season by completing an 8-0 record.

Their ear-busting home fans will not now be able to play 12th man for Wilson and company, who will have to do it themselves on the road in the play-offs when they make a long journey across the country to face the NFC East champions.

Wilson passed for 250 yards against St Louis and just the one touchdown to Michael Robinson, but that ten-yarder was enough to tie Manning's rookie record of 26 set in 1998.

Wilson had a tough day as he was sacked six time by the Rams, but stepped up when it mattered to run in a score himself from a yard to win the game.

Sam Bradford's final drive came up short as he finished with 252 yards and a TD strike to Austin Pettis, while Rams stalwart running back Steven Jackson become just the sixth man in NFL history to rush for 1,000 yards in eight straight seasons.
