The New York Jets saw their slim play-off hopes slip away after they suffered a 14-10 reverse to the Tennessee Titans.

The Jets had needed to win their final three matches of the regular season to remain in the hunt for a play-off berth.

However they were their own worst enemy on Monday night, with quarterback Mark Sanchez throwing four interceptions while Chris Johnson was able to rush 94 yards through the Jets defence for the opening touchdown.

Nick Folk's 22-yard field goal in the first quarter had given the Jets the early advantage, however it was the Titans who led at the break after Johnson had raced nearly the entirely length of the field.

Sanchez did connect with Jeff Cumberland with a 17-yard TD pass to give the Jets a 10-7 lead only for the Titans to respond with what proved to be the decisive score.

Jake Locker, who completed 13-of-22 passes for 149 yards, rushed over from 13 yards to snap Tennessee's three-game losing streak.

The Jets did have their chances and with a minute left they were deep in the Tennessee half but Sanchez bungled a snap.

"For that last play to happen it is about as bad as it gets," Jets coach Rex Ryan said. "I thought we would be in the play-offs."
