The Pittsburgh Steelers were forced to dig deep to clinch a 16-13 overtime victory against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday.

The Steelers, hampered by the loss of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger with a shoulder injury at the start of the third quarter, eventually broke the Chiefs 51 seconds into the extra session - with Lawrence Timmons' interception providing the platform for Shaun Suisham to slot over the winning field goal from 23 yards.

The Chiefs had defied expectations to hold Pittsburgh to 13-13 at the end of regulation time.

They had led 10-0 early on, with Jamaal Charles rushing 12 yards for the opening touchdown while Ryan Succop slotted over a 22-yard field goal.

Suisham replied with his first field goal of the match while Roethlisberger connected with Mike Wallace to tie the match.

Suisham kicked the Steelers in front with a 31-yard field goal in the fourth quarter, only for Succop to force overtime with his 46-yard effort.

The Steelers, though, held their nerve to clinch a fourth straight win to move to one game behind the AFC North leaders the Baltimore Ravens.

The franchise are now waiting on the fitness of Roethlisberger, who did not return to the game after he was slammed to the turf by Tamba Hali and Justin Houston.
