Shonn Greene ran for a career-high 161 yards and three touchdowns to help the New York Jets flatten the Indianapolis Colts by a 35-9 scoreline at MetLife Stadium.

The Jets rushed for 252 yards in total to take some pressure off the shoulders of much-maligned quarterback Mark Sanchez, as they moved to 3-3 for the season and snapped a two-game losing streak.

Sanchez threw for just 82 yards on 11 completions, though two of those resulted in touchdowns. He hit Stephen Hill from five yards out to put the home team in front for the first time and then connected with Jason Hill from the same distance, making it 21-6 to the Jets.

In between tail-back Greene reached the end zone for the first time and he added two further scores in the second half, both from short range.

The only setback for the Jets was the injuries suffered by back-up tail-backs Joe McKnight, who hurt his ankle whilst completing a 61-yard run, and Bilal Powell (shoulder).

Indianapolis (2-3) trailed 21-6 at halftime and couldn't erase a big deficit for the second straight week after coming back from 18 points down to defeat Green Bay last Sunday.

Rookie quarterback Andrew Luck finished with 280 yards passing and two interceptions, while he also lost fumble. Running back Vick Ballard, making his first NFL start in the absence of the injured Donald Brown, managed just 25 yards on eight carries.

All of the points for the Colts came courtesy of veteran kicker Adam Vinatieri, who connected from 20, 50 and 47 yards out.
