Seattle Seahawks improved to 3-2 on the season following a 16-12 success over the Carolina Panthers (1-4).

Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson shook off two third quarter interceptions and outperformed Cam Newton on a struggle-filled day for the Carolina offense, which finished with only 190 yards.

Special teams took centre stage in the opening half with Seattle's Steven Hauschka kicking two field goals while Justin Medlock added three points for the Panthers.

Carolina forged ahead in the third quarter when Captain Munnerlyn picked off Wilson and returned the ball 33 yards for a touchdown.

Order was restored when rookie Wilson threw a 13-yard touchdown pass to Golden Tate with 35 seconds left in the third quarter.

Hauschka's 44-yarder made it a six point game in the fourth quarter, although Carolina reduced the arrears when Jon Ryan was tackled in his own end zone by Kenny Onatolu.
