New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning has admitted that watching his brother win Super Bowl accolades inspired him to go even further.

The younger of the two brothers stood on the touchline as Peyton Manning claimed the Most Valuable Player award when the Indianapolis Colts beat the Chicago Bears 29-17 to lift the Super Bowl championship.

However, only one year passed before Manning jnr matched the achievement when he picked up the accolade in 2008 as the Giants registered a shock Super Bowl win against the New England Patriots.

And with Manning preparing for Super Bowl XLVI on Sunday when his Giants side will line up against the Patriots once again, the 31-year-old could surpass Peyton and double his MVP title tally.

But Manning remembers the feeling of watching his sibling claim the championship and admits that it was doing so that spurred him on to go even further and claim the crown.

Jealous

"Just seeing Peyton after that game, just seeing him down in the locker room, seeing that smile on his face, then being with him those next couple of months after he had won a Super Bowl, it definitely made you jealous," Manning said.

"You always want to win a championship, but when you see someone win it, just the relief, the smile that is painted on his face for months makes you want to win it even more.

"It truly gives you a burning desire to get one."

The duo always stay close and Manning admits that his 35-year-old brother has continued to be supportive and helped him on his journey to becoming a professional quarterback.

Although Manning recollects the fun Peyton used to have as he tried to teach his younger brother about American football.

Learning

"His most popular move was he'd pin me down and take his knuckles and knock on my chest and make me name the 12 schools in the SEC (Southeatern Conference)," he added.

"I didn't know them all at the time I was six or seven, but I quickly learned them. It was a great learning technique.

"Once I figured those out he moved on to all the 28 team in the NFL at that point. So I had to get my studying on for that. The one I never got was 10 brands of cigarettes.

"So when he really wanted to torture me and knew I had no shot at getting it, that's when I started screaming for my mom or dad to come and save me."
