Dennis Pitta: Baltimore Ravens tight end caught seven touchdown passes last season
Baltimore Ravens tight end Dennis Pitta will miss the start of the season, at least, after dislocating his hip.
Pitta was carried off the practice field after colliding with safety James Ihedigbo on a jump ball at the back of the end zone.
He will be out for at least six weeks but several reports in America claim he will miss the entire 2013 season.
The Ravens, who are the defending Super Bowl champions, open their title defence away to Denver Broncos on September 5.
"We'll have to take a look at it and see exactly what it is," said Ravens head coach John Harbaugh on Pitta.
"It's a situation, it's a serious injury and he's going to be out for a while. He will not be in the Denver game, and we'll just have to play it from there and see how long it goes."
Pitta, entering his fourth year in the NFL, enjoyed his best season in 2012 with 61 receptions for 669 yards and seven touchdowns.
