Tampa Bay have announced that Mike Williams has signed a new six-year contract which commits him to the Buccaneers until 2018.

The wide receiver had a year remaining on a four-year deal, but terms have been agreed on a new contract believed to be worth over $40m.

Williams and former San Diego wideout Vincent Jackson formed one of the most prolific partnerships in the NFL last season, combining for 135 catches for 2,380 yards and 17 touchdowns between them.

Jackson led the NFL in the yards per catch statistics with 19.2, while Williams posted a career-best of 15.8 - ranking him 16th in the NFL.

Williams, a fourth-round draft pick in 2010, has yet to miss a game since joining the Bucs and his 23 touchdown catches are the most for the first three seasons by any player in Tampa Bay history.

He was the leading rookie wide receiver in the 2010 season despite being only the 14th player in that position to be drafted, and his 11 touchdowns in his debut campaign remain a single-season club record.

Williams and Jackson also helped the team set franchise records last year for yardage (5,820) and points (389).

The Bucs have also added a familiar face to their running back stable with former star rusher Peyton Hillis joining on a one-year contract.

Hillis, a former 1,000-yard man, struggled with injuries after his breakout year with the Cleveland Browns, and he is looking to bounce back after a disappointing spell in Kansas City.

Rookie rusher Doug Martin enjoyed a stellar first year last season, ranking fifth in the league with 1,454 rushing yards and 1,926 in total, but the Bucs are now auditioning for his back-up.

Veteran Brian Leonard will join Hillis in the mix for training camp, while Tampa Bay also picked up Miami running back Mike James with a sixth-round pick in April's Draft.
