Bosnia batter Estonia, Spain go top and Turkey hold Belgium

A Zvjezdan Misimovic hat-trick set Bosnia-Herzegovina on course for a 7-0 win over Estonia which kick-starts their 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign. Bosnia were narrowly beaten by Euro 2008 winners Spain in their opening qualifier on Saturday and showed they could well have a big part to play in Group Five by bouncing back with a thumping victory in Zenica. Misimovic opened the scoring in the 25th minute before the Wolfsburg striker converted a penalty five minutes later, and the hosts put Estonia to the sword after the restart. Misimovic sealed his treble in the 50th minute, and Zlatan Muslimovic struck two minutes later before Edin Dzeko pounced in the 54th minute. Dzeko claimed a second goal late on while substitute Senijad Ibricic completed the rout two minutes from time.

Late equaliser

It was a much closer affair between Turkey and Belgium in Istanbul as Emre's late penalty gave the hosts a 1-1 draw. Wesley Sonck followed up his brace in Saturday's 3-2 win over Estonia by giving Belgium a 31st-minute lead, before Emre held his nerve to level from the spot in the 75th minute. That draw allowed Spain to go top of the group with a 4-0 home win against Armenia. Joan Capdevila gave them an eighth-minute lead and David Villa's 17th-minute strike put the hosts firmly in control. Villa claimed his third goal in two games for Spain in the 79th minute before Marcos Senna completed the scoring three minutes later.
