Late change for Honduras

Honduras have called up Jerry Palacios to their squad as a late replacement for Julio Cesar de Leon.

Third Palacios brother joins squad as De Leon suffers injury

Honduras have called up Jerry Palacios to their squad as a late replacement for Julio Cesar de Leon. Midfielder De Leon was forced to pull out of the World Cup with a leg injury on the eve of Honduras' opening match against Chile. Under Fifa rules a squad switch has to be made 24 hours before a country's first match at the tournament, and Honduras have beaten the deadline to bring in striker Palacios. Fifa communications official Pekka Odriozola said: "I can confirm we received a request to OK the switch and it has been accepted."

Rambo blow

Palacios, who plays for Chinese club Hangzhou Greentown, joins brothers Wilson and Johnny in the Honduras squad. It is the first time in World Cup history that three brothers have figured in the same tournament. But Palacios's promotion to the squad came at the price of a major blow for De Leon, who is nicknamed 'Rambo'. "Rambo is feeling very down and is very sad at missing out on the World Cup," team doctor Raul Perez told reporters.
