Baggies pair eyeing Chelsea opener

West Brom manager Roberto Di Matteo has Gonzalo Jara and Marek Cech back in the ranks following their exploits at the World Cup finals. Chile star Jara and Slovakian defender Cech were both handed extended breaks after helping their teams to the second round of the tournament in South Africa. But both have returned to training with the Baggies ahead of the start of the new Premier League campaign, which sees Di Matteo's team take on Chelsea. Jara missed the entire pre-season campaign to fully recover from a broken metatarsal sustained in February shortly after his move to the Midlands from Colo-Colo.

Condition

The 24-year-old is looking to catch the eye of Di Matteo, who said: "Gonzalo will be involved in some capacity on Saturday (against Osasuna). "We will assess his condition for the rest of the week before deciding how much he will be involved. "But he is a quality player and I'm looking forward to seeing him progress in the Premier League." Cech is also confident he can be in contention to take on the Premier League champions next week following his return to The Hawthorns. The 27-year-old, who played a pivotal part in West Brom's promotion last season, played 45 minutes in a friendly clash against Coventry.
Top quality
And he is confident he will be fit enough to feature against Carlo Ancelotti's side at Stamford Bridge on 14th August. Cech said: "I feel like I need to work a lot now because the Chelsea game is very near. I am happy that I am back and training but fitness-wise I'm certainly not what you would call top quality at the moment. "I feel this week I will improve a lot and, for sure, I will be ready for the Chelsea game. I have just under two weeks until the game and that is enough time to get in the right physical condition." Boss Di Matteo insists places in his starting XI are still up for grabs, adding: "I still haven't made my mind up about the opening game at Chelsea so I will be looking at a few options this weekend."
