Matt Bright hopes his adopted Serbia can serve up a surprise in Group D, starting against Ghana on Sunday.

Expect an upset in Group D

Months in the waiting and the big day is finally here, Sunday 13th June 7:30pm, Serbia will line up against Ghana hoping to get their World cup campaign off to a great start, unlike that of the last World Cup in 2006. In 2006 Serbia, then known as Serbia and Montenegro, finished dead last without winning one group game, and that included losing to Argentina 6-0 and losing to Ivory Coast 3-2 after taking a two-goal lead. This was not a successful campaign, especially after they won their qualifying group game ahead of favorites Spain, and because of that this are starting to look vary similar to this world cup, but lets just hope that history doesn't repeat itself. Thankfully we have had no injuries, no broken metatarsals and with a 3-2 win over Cameroon in their final warm-up game, the White Eagles are ready to take on Group D - and what a tough group it is.
Upset
Another similarity to '06, Serbia is in one of the toughest groups, Germany are clearly favourites but you can't underestimate the likes of Ghana or Australia. We all have to admit it is a very tough group but there is a massive chance of an upset. Each game is going to be very crucial, and in my honest opinion any of these teams have the potential to get through the group stage and I don't think anyone would be too shocked if there was a bit of an upset in this group. I personally believe that Serbia has the ability to progress through the group stage and if I was a betting man then I'd say behind Germany. Either way I just can't wait to get the tournament started, the whole tournament is a must watch, but I'd urge everyone to have a little watch of Serbia in this tournament, you will not be disappointed. Come on you White Eagles! Will Serbia make it out of tough Group D? Is Matt right to predict an upset? Let us know by filling in the feedback form below...
