On 12th June the first ball of the 20th FIFA World Cup will be kicked as hosts Brazil take on Croatia in Sao Paulo, ten years on from when one of the greatest underdog stories the footballing world has ever seen was beginning to unfold.
Greece were tipped to simply make up the numbers in the 2004 European Championship in Portugal, who - along with their Iberian neighbours Spain - were expected to oust the Greeks in what was ostensibly seen as one of the toughest groups at the tournament.
However, victory over Portugal in their Group A opener on 12th June 2004 saw Greece begin their incredible rise from international obscurity to European champions in the space of a month, breaking the hosts' hearts once more in the final.

DECISION TIME
West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce believes selecting a 'fresh' Andy Carroll could benefit England at this summer's World Cup.
The 25-year-old striker has been restricted to just six appearances for the Hammers this season through a combination of injury and suspension.
Carroll is, however, a proven Premier League performer and a man with nine senior international caps to his name.

Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva is determined to end the season on a high to boost his World Cup chances after injury. The Brazil international is in contention to return to his club's first team against Manchester United at the weekend and he hopes it is a step forward. The 27-year-old is now aiming to play his part for Liverpool in the final two months of the season and earn himself a place in Brazil's World Cup squad.

Uruguay continue to divide opinion ahead of the World Cup, with sceptics critical of their qualifying form while their backers point to their squad strength on paper. The South Americans required a play-off to qualify yet again but that never hindered their form on the big stage in 2010, when they impressed on a run to the semi-finals.
Sky Bet make them 10/1 to go out at the same stage once more while they Are 28/1 outsiders in the winners' market - a decent outside bet considering they will compete on their own continent. Manager Oscar Tabarez used just 28 players and handed only two debuts during their qualifying campaign, suggesting a tight unit will head to Brazil which includes two of the world's most feared strikers in Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani.
Suarez is 12/1 second favourite to win the Golden Boot while Cavani is 28/1. La Celeste are 20/1 to be runners-up while it is 60/1 for an all-South American final between Uruguay and the hosts. However, providing they get through their group, Sky Bet make them 11/4 to go no further with a second-round exit deemed more likely than a quarter-final spot (100/30), meaning another noteworthy run is against the odds.
