USA plan revenge mission

USA will aim to avenge their elimination from the last World Cup when they meet Ghana.

Onyewu and Donovan still hurting from 2006 exit

USA will aim to avenge their elimination at the hands of Ghana from the last World Cup when they meet again in this summer's last 16 on Saturday evening. Ghana, the only remaining African team in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, reached the last 16 of the 2006 finals courtesy of a controversial victory over USA in their concluding group match. Oguchi Onyewu was adjudged to have fouled Razak Pimpong while going for a header to gift Ghana a penalty, which Stephen Appiah converted to allow his side to progress and send USA home. USA are therefore out for revenge and the events of four years ago are still an issue for Onyewu, with the defender saying: "An injustice. I still to this day don't know where the foul came from." Star man Landon Donovan said: "That was not a good day, for me or the team. What I remember most personally was my tentativeness and the immediate feeling afterwards of the finality of it, and how disappointing that was." Donovan helped to partially erase those painful memories with his stoppage-time winner against Algeria on Wednesday to allow USA to top Group C above England. USA must now win a second successive World Cup match for the first time since 1930 on Saturday to reach the quarter-finals.
