First World Cup win since 1962 won't distract midfielder

Chile winger Mark Gonzalez says his team will not dwell on their victory over Honduras. Coach Marcelo Bielsa saw his team start their Group H campaign strongly to see off their rivals 1-0 in Nelspruit thanks to Jean Beausejour's 34th minute strike. The result was the country's first win in the World Cup finals since they finished third in the 1962 tournament they hosted and puts them on course to make the knockout phase. CSKA Moscow star Gonzalez was keen to savour the three points that ended their barren spell - however he was cautious over the prospect of getting carried away ahead of their encounter with Switzerland on Monday.

Celebrate

The Swiss recorded a stunning 1-0 win over Spain to heat up the battle for a top two spot and Gonzalez said their focus would now be on their next match in Port Elizabeth. "It is always important to win the first three points and after that you can think you have one leg in the second round," said Gonzalez. "We just want to celebrate, especially because we have made history - for so many years Chile did not win a game at the World Cup. We are very happy about that but looking forward to the second game now. "We just have to think about Switzerland now. It will be a tough game and we will have to keep up our good work. I don't know much about the Swiss but we know they are a very tough team. "We will watch videos during the week, so we will know them better. We will try to win the next game so we can think about the next round."
Fix up
Although Chile were enterprising in their attacking play, they only managed to register Beausejour's solitary goal against a side considered to be one of the weakest in the entire competition. And the former Liverpool man said his team would not be underestimating their next opponents, while targeting improvement in their own performance. "We can't relax yet. I think we can do much better," insisted 25-year-old Gonzalez. "We won 1-0 but could have scored more goals. As a team we did things wrong and we will try to fix that up."
