Cafu the record-breaker

Brazil captain Cafu has equalled his country's record for World Cup appearances.

Brazil captain Cafu's appearance in the 2-0 win over Australia on Sunday saw him equal his country's record for World Cup appearances.

The flying 36-year-old has defied his age to equal the 18 tournament games played by former Brazilian captain Carlos Dunga and goalkeeper Claudio Taffarel.

In all his showpiece ties the South American full back has won 15 matches, lost two and drawn one.

He is on course to smash the record should Brazil retain their trophy, provided he competes in all seven games, a fact he is well aware of in Germany.

"I have football in my blood and it's more than my career it's my passion," he enthused.

"Having this record is something that makes me very proud and it motivates me even more to win more things."

Cafu already holds the record for the most international caps for Brazil and is the only player to have competed in three World Cup finals in a row.

He played in the final in 1994, 1998 and 2002, and will be hoping to extend that run at this year's tournament before returning to Serie A for another season at Milan.
