Rodgers hopes to keep Maxi

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will try to persuade Maxi Rodriguez to stay at Anfield despite the player being unsettled.

He will understand the way I want us to play, reveals Liverpool boss

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers will try to persuade Maxi Rodriguez to stay at Anfield despite the player being unsettled. The Argentina international was forced to settle for a bit-part role with the Reds last season under former manager Kenny Dalglish. But the 31-year-old midfielder impressed when given the chance and his style of play would appear to suit the fluid approach that Rodgers implemented at Swansea last season. The problem could be that Maxi is unsettled on Merseyside and is believed to be keen to return to Argentina, with the club where he started his career, Newell's Old Boys, a likely destination. While acknowledging that is an issue, Rodgers has stressed that Maxi would have a role to play if he elected to stay at Liverpool. "I would love to have him here as he is a very good player and would be very good for our squad," said the 39-year-old boss. "He will understand 120 per cent about the way I want us to play. But sometimes there are issues. It has been difficult for his family. "I have had a couple of really good conversations with him. It was difficult for him last season. He probably felt he should have played more."
