Miroslav Klose has no plans to slip into international retirement, with it his intention to help Germany right their European Championship wrongs at the 2014 World Cup.
Germany were strong favourites to go all the way at Euro 2012, as the only side to make it to the semi-final stage with a 100 per cent record, but saw Italy dash their dreams on Thursday.
A 2-1 reversal against the Azzurri means it is back to the drawing board for Joachim Low and his talented squad.
With plenty of youngsters within their ranks, they will be expected to be among the challengers when the World Cup arrives in Brazil in two years' time.
Klose hopes he will still be under consideration by 2014, with the 34-year-old striker determined to get his hands on international silverware.
"For me, there won't be many European Championships or World Cups in the future," he said.
Disappointed
"That's why I'm as disappointed as the rest.
"It's hard to decide now, but I can imagine playing on for two more years to make amends in 2014."
Klose, who has netted 64 times in 121 appearances for his country, admits it will take some time for Germany's painful Euro 2012 exit to sink in.
He said: "There is a very sad atmosphere. Some guys are crying and you can only tell them that they have to keep their heads up.
"It was one of my bitterest moments, but the hurdle posed by Italy was too high.
"We couldn't play to our potential. Maybe we showed them too much respect."
