Holland full-back Jetro Willems has been ruled out of the World Cup after suffering a knee ligament injury in PSV Eindhoven's defeat to Feyenoord on Saturday.
The 20-year-old, who has previously been linked with Manchester United as a possible transfer target, looked certain for a place in the national side.
Willems has received 11 caps for his country and was the youngest player to appear at the Euro 2012 championship.
In a statement on the PSV website, the club said: "Jetro Willems is to miss the rest of PSV's season after having been ruled out for several months with knee ligament injury.
"PSV's medical staff reports that the 20-year-old left-back has damaged his knee.
"Willems hopes to be fit again for pre-season training."
