England manager Roy Hodgson will hand Andros Townsend his international debut in tonight's crucial World Cup qualifier with Montenegro.

The Tottenham star, 22, will start on the wing at Wembley in a formation that is likely to be flexible, with Manchester United forward Danny Welbeck also selected out wide.

The inclusion of both Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard relegates Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere to the substitutes' bench, and both veterans are expected to perform deep-lying midfield roles.

As expected, left-back Leighton Baines steps in for Ashley Cole, who has sustained a rib injury, with Phil Jagielka and Gary Cahill continuing their central defensive partnership.

In attack, Wayne Rooney is set to start in a withdrawn role just behind in-form Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge.

England: Hart, Walker, Cahill, Jagielka, Baines, Gerrard, Lampard, Townsend, Rooney, Welbeck, Sturridge.
